This book is an outcome of the author’s practice in reading linguistic courses, such as general linguistics, English grammar, and the history of English, firstly at the Department of English Philology in Vilnius University and later at the Department of Neophilology in Bialystok University.
It covers all main levels of language. The problems of sound system, grammar, and lexical semantics are mainly described in the tradition of functional linguistics, although some ideas are derived from other linguistic trends, such as generative or case grammar.
The book may be used in courses on phonology, grammar, or lexicology. (Autor)
